As you’ll notice on The Growler’s “Land of 10,000 Drinks Map,” there are nearly 100 breweries in the Twin Cities alone. Whether you’re searching for a pint of craft beer in the long-abandoned Hamm’s Brewery or a sleek, multi-purpose complex, you’ll assuredly find a taproom that perfectly suits your taste. While the local craft beer industry is still in the midst of a giant boom, several Northeast Minneapolis breweries have been setting trends for nearly a decade. There are several craft brewing meccas right here in the Twin Cities, but Northeast’s beer, art, and music scene is the perfect starting point for any traveler.
The Top 3 Northeast Minneapolis Breweries
Minnestay has a wide variety of luxury vacation rentals within minutes of all three of these top-rated Northeast Minneapolis breweries, so you’ll always be a short jaunt from a refreshing ale. All of these elite Twin Cities breweries bring something unique to the “table,” which helps this up-and-coming neighborhood thrive.
1. 56 BREWING
What started as a modest effort in a dusky, decrepit warehouse right here in Northeast Minneapolis has blossomed into one of the most head-turning operations in the state. One of 56’s motto is “Garden to Growler,” as their glossy yet rustic taproom overlooks a lush community garden. This brewing team has not only evolved with the always-shifting times, but they’re effectively slinging some of the best New England-style IPAs in the Twin Cities. We would buy a lifetime supply of the double dry-hopped Solarama Crush if we could. MUST TRY: Solarama Crush, Walnut Joy, and Super ’Ssippi Squeeze.
2. HEADFLYER BREWING
HeadFlyer Brewing has a lot of noteworthy things going for them: a) their beer is delicious and on-point, b) their taproom lustrous, and c) seemingly every day is a dog show. Seriously, on any given evening, you’ll likely spot some of the cutest dogs in Minneapolis in this well-lit taproom. Bravo, local residents! HeadFlyer shares their repurposed brick building with several thriving businesses, such as Five Watt Coffee, Mission Manor Escape Rooms, and Northland Visions. Whether you’re aiming to enjoy the sunshine on their lengthy deck or savor street food from a top-rated food truck, you’ll thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere at HeadFlyer. MUST TRY: It Was All A Dream, Wicked Jump Shot, and Dreamshake.
3. INDEED BREWING COMPANY
Indeed is officially in the midst of opening a second location in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They’re not only one of the premier Northeast Minneapolis breweries, but they were, in fact, “The Original.” Co-founder Tom Whisenand leads one of our favorite Minneapolis brewery tours – his wealth of knowledge and experience in the beer industry (as well as his charisma) are always on full display. Due to popular demand, Indeed has also expanded and added a second on-site taproom. While they’re known for their unique, slightly outrageous concoctions, such as the L.S.D. Honey Ale and Mexican Honey Imperial Lager, we’re a sucker for their lower ABV options. Oh, and their beer can artist, Chuck U, is the best in the business. MUST TRY: B-Side Pils, Flavorwave IPA, and Shenanigans Honey Wheat Ale.
